Centro de Salud Puerto II in Puerto de Sagunto: works licence for a 2,639.60 m² extension
Sagunto has granted the works licence to extend the Centro de Salud Puerto II health centre on Calle Sagasta, adding 2,639.60 m² of built area. The Generalitat must now tender and award the job.
The regional Health Ministry (Conselleria de Sanidad) now has the municipal permit it needed to extend the Centro de Salud Puerto II, a primary-care health centre. Sagunto City Council has granted the works licence for the project, which will be built on Calle Sagasta in Puerto de Sagunto (the coastal district), and that clears the way for the tender.
The request came from the Sagunto Health Department, a body that reports to the Conselleria. The permit was issued once the council's technical services for Urban Planning Enforcement and for Activities gave a favourable report. On paper, the extension adds 2,639.60 square metres of built area, a little over 2,600 in round figures.
The licence does not start the works by itself. The next step belongs to the Generalitat (the Valencian regional government): putting the contract out to tender and awarding it to a construction firm. The council's announcement does not say when the tender will be published, so for now residents cannot count on a start date for the works.
What the resolution does fix are the deadlines: work must begin within 6 months at most and finish within 24 months of starting. Added together, that is up to 30 months of margin, and extensions are allowed only in justified cases.
One detail affects the street itself. So that construction vehicles can reach the plot, the licence includes removing three street lamps from the neighbouring pedestrian street and putting them back once the work is done. This will be coordinated with the council's Maintenance Department, so during construction that stretch will have three fewer light points.
The centre sits in the largest urban area of the Camp de Morvedre district: Puerto de Sagunto had 44,428 inhabitants in 2019. The extension aims to improve primary care there and give more capacity to one of its reference centres, within the Sagunto Health Department's network.
The project has a budget background. According to valenciaplaza.com in January 2024, the Consell's plans for Sagunt and the Camp de Morvedre were presented with more than 51 million euros in infrastructure, including the extension of the Puerto health centre and of the Hospital de Sagunt. That report did not give a separate figure for the health centre, and the council's announcement does not mention the cost of the works either.
Three things therefore remain unknown: the tender budget, the date the tender will be published, and which specific services will occupy the new floor space.
