Accident on the AP-7 motorway near Sagunto: road closed towards Castellón
Spain's traffic authority (DGT) has closed the AP-7 at Sagunto towards Castellón after an accident, since early on Friday 16 October. It has not yet said how many vehicles are involved, whether anyone is hurt, or what caused it.
The Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT, Spain's national traffic authority) warned on its X profile at 6:17 am on Friday 16 October of an accident on the AP-7 (the toll motorway along the Mediterranean coast) as it passes Sagunto, in the direction of Castellón. At first only the left lane was shut. Twelve minutes later the DGT updated its notice: the road was now closed.
For now the picture is incomplete. The DGT has not said how many vehicles are involved, whether anyone is injured, or what caused the crash, so any figure or explanation would be premature.
For anyone who needs to head north this morning, the practical consequence is clear: the AP-7 section at Sagunto cannot be used in that direction while the closure lasts. The N-340, which between kilometre points 933 and 939 serves as the conventional alternative to the motorway within the municipality, is the reference route when the AP-7 is shut, according to Wikipedia. It is worth checking the DGT's X profile or its traffic information before setting off, because road conditions can change from one moment to the next.
This is not the first time this year that a crash has hit this stretch. According to elperiodic.com on 4 March 2026, a car collided with a lorry on the AP-7 near Sagunto and the injured person was taken to the Hospital Clínico by a SAMU ambulance (the Valencian emergency medical service); the outlet described it as the third crash on that road within a few hours.
According to El Periódico de Aquí, which cites the DGT, with data from Wikipedia on the N-340 and from elperiodic.com on the March crash.
