Art therapy workshop in Sagunto with EU funding: sessions until 17 December
Sagunto's Social Services department has opened an art therapy workshop for participants in its Social Inclusion Itineraries programme. It runs Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 to 13:30 at Los Claveles Social Centre until 17 December.
The art therapy workshop that Sagunto's Social Services department launched this week is not open to any resident: it is for people already taking part in 'Caminamos por la inclusión', the council's social inclusion itinerary. The programme is funded by the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) of the Valencian Community for 2021-2027.
Sessions take place on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, from 9:30 to 13:30, at the Los Claveles Social Centre, and will continue until 17 December. Each meeting lasts four hours, the same as in the previous edition, which totalled 160 hours over 40 sessions, according to elperiodic.com (a local news site) in May 2026.
Rather than producing a specific artwork, the workshop invites participants to try different materials and artistic techniques so that each person gets to know themselves better and finds their own way of expressing themselves. The course works on imagination, confidence and self-esteem, communication both individually and in a group, and managing emotions. Art is also used as a tool to lower stress and anxiety, and the sessions leave room for discussion, reflection and critical thinking.
No previous artistic experience is required. The idea is for people to experiment and enjoy the process in a safe setting, with no aesthetic goal to meet.
The councillor for Social Services, Nuria Carbó, links the repeat of the activity to the good results of the previous edition. In her view, the workshop strengthens users' self-esteem and supports their path into work and social integration.
That edition ended with a collective exhibition of photographs by the participants. The council's announcement does not, for now, mention a closing exhibition for this course.
Art therapy runs this autumn alongside other actions of the same programme, closer to professional qualification. The course on cleaning open spaces and industrial facilities brings together 15 participants for 240 theory and practice hours, includes work placements in a company and leads to a Level 1 Certificate of Professionalism. The course in the food sector adds up to 62 theory and practice hours and ends on 28 October. Compared with those courses, the Los Claveles workshop deals with the personal foundation: self-esteem, communication and emotional management, which the department sees as part of the road to employment.
