Nautipaints Sagunto: new base at VMG Astilleros for large yacht maintenance
Nautipaints Group has opened a yacht painting and refit workshop at VMG Astilleros de Sagunto, next to a 5,000-tonne ship lift.
Owners of large yachts who need a repaint or a deep refit now have one more option in Sagunto. Nautipaints Group, a company specialised in the care of luxury vessels, has set up an operating base inside VMG Astilleros de Sagunto (a shipyard in the commercial port) to strengthen its position in the Mediterranean. It will work from its own workshop and also on boats hauled out in the shipyard grounds.
The workshop copies the model of the group's facilities in Palma. It has separate areas for preparation, painting, logistics and storage, plus a support space for the technical team. On top of that comes the maintenance and renovation work the industry calls refit, which the company will carry out on vessels at the yard.
The base will serve all four divisions of the group. Nautipaints handles painting and refits of large yachts; Nautiunderwater, the underwater hull (the part below the waterline) and tanks; Nauticover, scaffolding and temporary structures; and Nautichandler, the supply of nautical products to professionals and private buyers.
According to the group itself, it chose Sagunto for the strategic value of the shipyard and its wish to be present at key locations for the sector. The main argument is VMG's 5,000-tonne ship lift, which the company's statement describes as the largest in the world dedicated exclusively to yachts. Its platform is 102 metres long and 22 metres wide, and it takes vessels up to 125 metres in length.
The infrastructure has outside backing. Lloyd's Register, the ship classification society, presented the yard with the lift's class certificate at the Monaco Yacht Show 2026. According to the society, once a yacht is lifted it moves to land-level repair berths covering 76,800 square metres of paved area. That is the space where Nautipaints will be able to work on boats out of the water.
The ship lift is not a recent novelty at the site. As superyachtnews.com reported in April 2026, the yard presented its installation at the time as a milestone within a modernisation and expansion project, in the commercial port of Sagunto. Nautipaints' arrival therefore builds on an earlier investment by the shipyard itself and adds specialised services, so painting and refit work can be coordinated in one place.
To gauge the weight of the new tenant, the group has completed more than 2,000 painting projects in 19 locations and has worked on yachts up to 123 metres long. Its operating plan for the 2026-2027 season covers Mallorca, Sagunto, Dénia, Alicante, Barcelona, Vilanova and Vigo. Sagunto thus becomes one of seven stops on a calendar the company builds around closeness to the client and the ability to run projects in different ports.
The company's statement does not mention the amount invested, the number of jobs or when the workshop will reach full activity, so its effect on local employment cannot yet be judged. The published details do confirm that the Sagunto shipyard now hosts one more maintenance operator for large yachts.
