The Camp de Morvedre district ended September with 83 more unemployed people than in August, but has 1,662 more Social Security contributors than a year ago, according to the latest local data.

Registered unemployment in the Camp de Morvedre (the district that includes Sagunto and Puerto de Sagunto) rose by 83 people in September compared with August. According to comarcalcv.com on 5 October 2026, the district counted 5,254 unemployed people, a monthly rise of 1.61%. El Periódico de Aquí notes that this pattern tends to repeat when the summer season ends.

The comparison with a year ago is not favourable: there are 143 more unemployed people than in September 2025 across the district. For a resident of Sagunto, Puerto de Sagunto or any other town in the Camp de Morvedre, that means a slightly tighter job market than last year, although with more people paying into the system.

The other side of the data is Social Security affiliation: the district has 1,662 more contributors than twelve months ago. The increase reaches every contribution scheme. Domestic work and self-employment stand out, as both set record numbers of contributors in August.

Youth unemployment moved the most in September. According to comarcalcv.com, this group added 81 unemployed people, a 25.80% increase, going from 314 to 395 young people out of work. That rise fits the slight rejuvenation of registered unemployment described by El Periódico de Aquí.

The profile of job seekers is also changing. The number of foreign nationals registered as job seekers has gone up. People aged 45 or over now make up 54% of the unemployed, two points fewer than a year ago, when they were 56%, and their total number has also fallen. The gap between the sexes remains large: women are six out of every ten registered job seekers.

As background, El Periódico de Aquí reported in June 2025 that unemployment in the district fell in May 2025 by 96 people compared with April and by 427 compared with May 2024, with Social Security affiliation growing steadily. The months are not the same, but the contrast is clear: back then unemployment was falling year on year, and now, with 143 more people than a year ago, it is rising.

The CCOO trade union calls for job growth to come with better working conditions and more purchasing power for wages. It points to the rising cost of housing, energy and groceries, as well as workplace safety and health. It also asks for stronger policies for groups that find it hardest to get work: young people, women, people with disabilities and people over 45.

The available data do not yet show developments by sector of activity, age or sex. That analysis will come when more detailed district statistics are published.
