Canet d'En Berenguer plans twenty free cultural events for August

Most of the programme is musical. Plaza dels Pescadors will host four concert nights starting at 11pm: tango performers Cecilia Pekarek and Txua open the series on day 1; on day 21 comes the bolero show Historia de un amor by Lourdes Trujillo, followed by Con dos coplas de más on day 22; meanwhile, Manel Chust & El Bohío bring their salsa and latin jazz mix on day 14. Parque Blasco Ibáñez will host jazz musician Amparo Chust on day 8. The musical line-up is completed by Nodoyunas, playing pop and rock classics on day 7; the Orquesta Contrabanda, timed to coincide with the Virgen de la Asunción local festival (patron-saint celebrations), on day 15; and a tribute to the legendary group Los Manolos, called Manolos Plateados, on day 28.
The film side of the programme is split by day of the week. On Tuesdays, next to the beach's first-aid post, there will be evening screenings starting at 10pm of Sketch, Tipos malos 2, Policán and Elio, with a special addition on day 10: La luz de Aisha. On Thursdays the venue shifts to Casa de los Llano (a local cultural centre), showing Gràcies per la propina — based on the novel by Ferran Torrent — the Superman remake directed by James Gunn, the classic comedy Sopa de ganso and the animated film Robot salvaje.
Younger audiences get their own slot too: La Tourné Teatro performs ¿Quién teme al lobo feroz? on day 9 and an adaptation of La fantástica fábrica de chocolate, based on the story by Roald Dahl, on day 23 — both at 8.30pm in Plaza dels Pescadors. On top of that, over four Sundays — the 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd — the duo Paradise will play live while the audience enjoys the traditional cena de sobaquillo (a casual open-air dinner), with chairs and tables set out in the open air.
Although it is an independent municipality, Canet shares a district with Sagunto — the Camp de Morvedre — and is its direct neighbour; much of its summer tourism centres on Racó de Mar beach, which explains why August concentrates so many free events.
