Sagunto to open a 2.2-kilometre firebreak along the Povitxol path

The Environment Department will work on both sides of the path, using a grant of almost €19,000 from the Valencia Provincial Council.

The project, funded with €18,824.81 awarded by the Provincial Council through a competitive grant scheme for forest management and fire prevention, is part of Sagunto's Local Forest Fire Prevention Plan. The work will involve forestry treatments along 2.2 kilometres, covering roughly 3.5 hectares on both sides of the Povitxol path, a rural track in the Sagunto countryside. The city council will hire technical assistance to draft reports, direct the works and coordinate health and safety, plus a company to carry out the forestry clearance needed to open the firebreak. Construction will begin once the administrative paperwork is complete. This type of action significantly reduces the risk of forest fire spreading and makes it easier for firefighting crews to act in an emergency. The Environment Department said it continues to work on similar projects in other parts of the municipality, as part of its broader fire-prevention strategy, which is especially relevant during the highest-risk summer months.
