AEMET raises Sagunto's extreme heat alert to red warning level

The alert runs this Wednesday, 15 July, from 13:00 to 20:59, with temperatures that could reach 42°C.

Under AEMET's official scale (Spain's national weather agency), a red warning means "extraordinary danger": vulnerable people or those in exposed areas could suffer serious or even catastrophic effects, so residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and follow official guidance. The city council urges people to take extra precautions, stay sheltered during the hottest hours of the day, and check official sources such as the council itself, AEMET and the 112 CV emergency line. Special care is recommended for children under 5, people over 65, those who are obese or ill, anyone taking certain medications, and people doing physical work outdoors. Residents should also watch children's and elderly relatives' fluid intake and never leave anyone inside a closed vehicle. To stay safe, officials recommend minimising sun exposure, using sun protection, wearing light, loose, pale clothing that covers the body, eating water-rich foods, and avoiding prolonged physical exercise during the hottest hours. The council reminds residents it has set up a network of more than 30 climate shelters across the municipality for anyone needing to escape the heat.
