Sagunt a Escena brings Valencian circus to the streets with four free shows
The Sagunt a Escena festival is staging four free circus performances by Valencian companies from 13 to 22 August in Cronista Chabret square, Casa dels Berenguer and the Alameda promenade.
The shows are part of the Off Romà section, which each summer turns squares and gardens in Sagunto and Puerto de Sagunto into open-air, free stages. The festival, organised by the Institut Valencià de Cultura (the regional culture institute) together with the Valencia Provincial Council and Sagunto City Council, has now reached more than thirty editions and is considered the leading summer performing-arts event in the Valencian Community.
The programme opens on 13 August in Cronista Chabret square with Caso enterrado ("Buried Case"), by the Notknown collective, a comedy that uses dance to solve the mystery of a family's 200-year-old fig tree. On 19 August, the Alameda promenade will host Fam ("Hunger"), by La Fam Teatre, featuring a six-metre-tall, twelve-metre-long articulated dragon puppet operated by four performers. Two days later, the courtyard of Casa dels Berenguer welcomes Koosha, by Cia. El Cruce, inspired by traditional street fairs. The season closes on 22 August in Cronista Chabret square with Juga ("Play"), by La Trócola Circ, focused on cross-generational street games. According to Sagunto City Council.
