UPV brings science-cooking workshops to Sagunto's youth centre this summer
The Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) held a summer edition of its 'Cocinando con ciencia UPV' (Cooking with Science) workshops today at the Casal Jove youth centre in Sagunto, aimed at introducing young people to science through cooking.
The workshop is part of an outreach programme the university repeats every year to spark scientific interest among children and teenagers through simple cooking experiments. In this edition, held at the Casal Jove youth centre as part of Sagunto's summer programme for young residents, participants explored everyday physical and chemical phenomena hands-on, using everyday kitchen ingredients and utensils. The initiative is backed by the Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología (FECYT), a Spanish public science foundation created in 2001 whose mission is to promote scientific culture in society, including through its Summer Science Campuses and the SINC news agency. Activities like this aim to complement formal education with hands-on experiences that make science more accessible to young people outside the classroom, using the summer break to offer an educational and playful alternative in town.
