Sagunto unveils joint programme book for its two patron saint festivals

Sagunto City Council presented on Monday the joint programme book for the patron saint festivals of Sagunto (18-30 July) and Puerto de Sagunto (1-15 August).

Every summer, Sagunto brings together the calendars of its two patron saint festivals, and this week it unveiled the new edition at the city hall. Mayor Darío Moreno and Councillor for Festivities and Popular Culture Patricia Sánchez led the event, joined by those behind the joint publication: the group representing the city's own peñas, the Asociación Cultural Penyes de Festes Patronals de Sagunt, and the Federación de Peñas de Puerto de Sagunto. Celebrations in the city centre, honouring Abdón and Senén, run from the 18th through the 30th of July; those in the port district, dedicated to the Virgin of Begoña - a Basque devotion inherited when the seaside neighbourhood was founded in 1902 around the steelworks - cover the first half of August. The book combines both calendars with photos from last year and practical details. On the night of Friday 17, a National Exhibition of Emboladores also debuts: a bull runs through streets closed to traffic with burning tow tied to its horns, a custom found along much of Mediterranean Spain. The full port programme will be announced soon. According to Sagunto City Council.
