Dance takes centre stage at Sagunto's 43rd Sagunt a Escena festival
The performing-arts festival, run by the Valencian Institute of Culture (IVC), stages 19 shows from 1 to 23 August, including five Valencian dance companies led by women, among them local choreographer Ángela Verdugo.
The 43rd edition of Sagunt a Escena, organised by the regional Conselleria of Education, Culture and Universities through the Valencian Institute of Culture (IVC), brings 19 shows to Sagunto between 1 and 23 August, with dance as one of the main themes. Five Valencian companies led by women will perform across the city: on 2 August, Marea Danza opens the dance programme with 'Anudar' at Paseo de la Alameda; on 6 August, local company La Siamesa, led by Sagunto-born Ángela Verdugo, marks its 20th anniversary with 'Bailarina a la carta' at Plaça dels Tarongers; and on 8 August, Fill d'Arena brings 'Públic' to Paseo del Pantalán. The closing show, on 23 August, is 'Carrer 024' by choreographer Sol Picó, from Alcoi. The festival, now past its thirtieth edition and recognised as the Valencian Community's leading summer performing-arts event, also includes OFF-ROMÀ, a free family programme of street theatre, circus and music in squares in Sagunto and Puerto de Sagunto (coastal district).
