Sagunto teenager Luz Antonino leads Spain's women's trial championship
Luz Antonino, a 14-year-old rider from Sagunto, now tops the standings in Spain's Women's Trial Championship (TR2 category) after winning both races held last weekend in León.
Sagunto's City Council, through its Physical Activity, Health and Sports Department, welcomed the young athlete after her double win in León, the latest round so far in the national championship, which includes eight scoring races held across Spain. Mayor Darío Moreno called Antonino an ambassador for the city and praised her maturity despite her young age. Her father and coach, Miguel Ángel Antonino, along with the rest of the family, also attended the reception, support that the rider herself credits for her results.
Trial is a motorcycling discipline that rewards precision and balance rather than speed: riders cross obstacle zones and receive penalty points every time they put a foot down or make a mistake, with the fewest penalties winning. The Spanish national championship has run continuously since 1968, and an indoor version has existed since 2002. Antonino now hopes to keep her lead in the TR2 category through the rest of the season. According to Sagunto City Council.
