Canet d'En Berenguer Launches Over 30 Free Summer Cultural Events
The Camp de Morvedre coastal municipality kicks off its summer programme on Thursday 2 July with a screening of 'Back to the Future' and keeps activities running until 28 August.
The Culture Department of Canet d'En Berenguer (a coastal town in the Camp de Morvedre district, near Sagunto) has assembled more than thirty free summer activities covering cinema, music, theatre, dance, and family shows, at venues across town on a first-come, first-served basis.
Film takes centre stage: indoor classics such as Berlanga's 'Plácido' and Hitchcock's 'North by Northwest' alternate with open-air beach cinema every Tuesday in July. On 19 July, audiences can watch '1963: El cine de Sol', an amateur film shot in Canet in 2012 by local resident Vicente Ibáñez — not listed in Spain's National Film Archive.
The opening concert features singer-songwriter Eva Gómez with 'Ací estic, jo soc aquella', a tribute to Valencian writer María Beneyto (1920–2011). The Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua (Valencian Language Academy) named Beneyto Writer of the Year 2025 posthumously, prompting publication of four previously inaccessible works, including two unpublished manuscripts.
The season's new highlight is the inaugural Festival de Rondallas de Canet, with four traditional string ensembles over two consecutive weekends. Mayor Pere Antoni highlighted the focus on local artists, according to El Periódico de Aquí.
