Compromís brings port–council agreement compliance to July plenary session
Opposition group Compromís has tabled a motion for Sagunto's July plenary session to examine how far the City Council and the Valencia Port Authority are honouring their mutual agreement.
Compromís — a left-wing, ecologist and Valencianist coalition acting as opposition on Sagunto City Council — has put forward a motion to place the compliance record of the agreement between the council and the Valencia Port Authority (APV) on the agenda of the July plenary session.
The agreement governs the relationship between the municipality and the port, a large state-owned infrastructure: the Port of Sagunto covers more than 2.3 million square metres, with six commercial docks and 5,103 linear metres of berthing space, handling millions of tonnes of goods each year across bulk cargo, steel products and general freight. Any breach of the terms binding both parties would have direct consequences for the urban and coastal environment of Sagunto.
The Compromís initiative reflects growing local concern about the impact of port activities on the shoreline of Puerto de Sagunto (coastal district) and neighbouring localities — a debate that has gained visibility in recent months. The July plenary will have to decide whether to open this discussion formally. According to elperiodic.com.
