Toni Huerta leaves Atlético Saguntino after a playoff season
Local midfielder Toni Huerta will not return to Atlético Saguntino next season, ending a comeback that lasted only one campaign.
Raised in the Atlético Saguntino academy from the age of six, Toni Huerta came back to the club in summer 2024 from CF Almazora — only to leave after a single season without renewing his contract. His farewell was shaped above all by a promotion playoff at the Nou Camp de Morvedre, the 2,000-capacity stadium in Sagunto where the club has played since its founding in 1922. The campaign took place in the Tercera Federación — Spain's fifth tier of football.
On the pitch, Huerta played 30 official matches, clocking 1,089 minutes and scoring once. The team, managed by Guillem Beltrán, finished second in Group VI before entering the playoff for Segunda Federación, where they were knocked out by CF La Nucía. In his farewell message, Huerta made clear he does not regard this as a permanent goodbye: the atmosphere of a packed Nou Camp de Morvedre during the knockout rounds remains among his finest footballing memories.
