Fire, drums and fireworks to light up St John's Night in Puerto de Sagunto
On Tuesday 23 June from 22:30, Avenida Mediterráneo in Puerto de Sagunto (coastal district) will host a travelling fire and percussion show, with a midnight fireworks display over the harbour.
The Municipal Festivals Department has lined up three headline acts for St John's Night on Tuesday 23 June: local group La Diabòlica de Morvedre and batucada (Brazilian-style percussion ensemble) Green Gos will perform a travelling fire and percussion show along Avenida Mediterráneo — from the Anchor roundabout to the car park — and at 23:59 Pirotecnia Turís will launch the fireworks display from the marina. The celebration, held on the eve of 24 June, is a Mediterranean summer-solstice tradition rooted in ancient rites associated with fire, purification and renewal.
The safety operation includes uninterrupted lifeguard cover until 04:00 with 9 lifeguards across the beaches of Puerto de Sagunto, Almardà and Corinto, plus two medicalised ambulances. The Equality Department will set up a purple point (safe space for reporting harassment) on the promenade. Municipal Police will deploy 56 officers, and traffic on Avenida Mediterráneo will be blocked from around 19:00, with parked vehicles cleared from 17:00. The municipal cleaning service SAG will send 26 workers from 05:00 on 24 June. According to the Ajuntament de Sagunt, the operation aims to ensure both a festive atmosphere and maximum safety for residents and visitors.
