Resident calls out Sagunto over broken wheelchair lift at Casa dels Berenguer
A Sagunto resident has been requesting the repair of the wheelchair elevator at the historic Casa dels Berenguer building for more than a year, with no effective response from the City Council.
The resident first filed a formal request with Sagunto City Council on 27 January 2025, asking that the wheelchair lift at the historic Casa dels Berenguer building be fixed. The council responded that the broken component was no longer manufactured and that a new elevator was under consideration. A follow-up request filed on 15 April 2026 also went unresolved.
An opinion piece in El Periódico de Aquí challenges a tourism poster describing Sagunto as an accessible city, pointing to specific shortfalls: very limited braille information for blind visitors, a lack of tactile models, and no audio-guide systems with sign language for deaf people who do not know sign language. The council has channelled some accessibility investment through its participatory budgeting process: in 2026, an urban accessibility project on the avenues of Puerto de Sagunto (coastal district) received €140,000 in municipal funds. The column argues that true accessibility requires consistency between public works and the upkeep of existing facilities, according to El Periódico de Aquí.
