Five Villages of Les Valls United in Historic March for Public Schools

A historic march through all five municipalities of Les Valls on Wednesday 11 June brought together around 500 people demanding better school infrastructure, smaller class sizes and Valencian-language teaching.

Setting off from Faura's town hall square, the column wound through Benifairó de les Valls, Quart de les Valls and Quartell before reaching the Torre de Benavites. Les Valls — a cluster of five villages in Camp de Morvedre irrigated by the Font de Quart spring — took to the streets simultaneously with teachers entering their second month of indefinite strike action. Parent associations (AFAs) called the protest just hours before a fresh round of talks between unions and the regional education ministry. Key demands included proper school buildings, reduced class sizes, stronger inclusive-education support and guaranteed Valencian-medium teaching. Four schools in the area still operate from prefabricated classrooms; IES La Vall de Segó risks losing five teachers when the next academic year begins. Representatives of unions STEPV and CCOO joined the march. Source: elperiodicodeaqui.com.
