Education strike: teachers march through five villages of Les Valls to press for a deal
Teachers and families from the five municipalities of Les Valls — in Camp de Morvedre — are staging a march to demand the Valencian education authority and unions end the ongoing strike.
The education strike in the Valencian Community (Comunitat Valenciana) has now run for more than three weeks with no resolution in sight. Teachers and families from Les Valls — a sub-district within Camp de Morvedre comarca comprising the villages of Faura, Benifairó de les Valls, Quart de les Valls, Quartell and Benavites — have organised a travelling protest through all five municipalities to raise pressure on both the regional education ministry (Conselleria d'Educació i la Cultura) and the unions. The strike began on 11 May 2026 and has accumulated 23 days without agreement as of today. Key demands include smaller class sizes, more teaching staff, better school infrastructure, increased funding for inclusive education, and protection of Valencian-language instruction. The Camp de Morvedre comarca, of which Les Valls forms part, was officially established in 1989 by merging the former Valle de Segó sub-district. The march aims to highlight the strike's local impact and add negotiating pressure on the regional administration. According to elperiodicodeaqui.com.
