Splash 2026 Awards Honour Velarde, Font and Penyas as Comic Art Standouts
Sagunto's Youth Department has announced the Premios Splash 2026 winners, celebrating the best of Spanish and international comics, with the 13th festival edition set for 20–22 November in Puerto de Sagunto.
The 13th edition of the Splash comics festival has its full line-up of winners and a confirmed date: 20–22 November at the José Veral pavilion in Puerto de Sagunto (coastal district), with free admission. This year's prizes centre on three major figures: Alfonso Font earns the Una vida de viñetas (A Life in Panels) career honour, while Ana Penyas — who in 2018 became the first woman to win Spain's Premio Nacional del Cómic (worth €30,000) with «Estamos todas bien» — adds the Entender el presente (Understanding the Present) award for «En vela». For new work, Natalia Velarde's «Encías quemadas» takes the best national title of 2025, and American author Tessa Hulls wins the international prize with «Alimentar a los fantasmas». Four further awards complete the slate: graphic humour goes to Iñaki & Frenchy, best screenplay to Ángel de la Calle, emerging talent to Marta Altieri and non-fiction to Joe Sacco.
