Short film 'La Trastienda' champions local shops as keepers of Sagunto's food culture
Sagunto City Council premiered the documentary short 'La Trastienda' at Cines Alucine cinema to launch its new campaign promoting neighbourhood commerce.
On Tuesday 3 June, Sagunto's Municipal Department for Commerce and Markets unveiled a campaign titled 'El recetario del comercio local, el sabor de tu barrio' (The local shop recipe book — the flavour of your neighbourhood). The centrepiece is 'La Trastienda' (The Back Room), a short documentary showing how local food shops have kept traditional recipes alive across generations. Residents contributed their favourite dishes through nearby food retailers, and a curated selection was compiled into a printed recipe book sharing the campaign's slogan. A range of promotional products illustrated with the winning recipes — chosen by a jury and by public vote on social media — was also produced. Councillor Natalia Antonino hosted the premiere alongside shopkeepers and local residents, praising commerce as both an economic and cultural engine for the city. Sagunto is the tenth largest municipality in the Valencian Community, with over 73,000 inhabitants and a deep Mediterranean tradition of local markets.
