Valencian industry chief calls for calm over PowerCo gigafactory timeline in Sagunto
Marián Cano, the Valencian regional minister for Industry, has called for calm over the timeline of the PowerCo battery gigafactory in Sagunto's Parc Sagunt II, declining to comment on a rumoured deal with China's Gotion.
Cano says the regional government (Generalitat) has met its deadlines for infrastructure works at Parc Sagunt II, coordinated by its Strategic Projects office, though PowerCo's own investment pace has seen some timeline adjustments. She declined to comment on rumours of a possible agreement between PowerCo and Chinese battery maker Gotion, citing a lack of official information, and described the gigafactory as a forward-looking project that will boost the region's profile and create quality jobs. On land originally reserved for PowerCo suppliers at Parc Sagunt II, Cano said the site's connectivity makes it attractive to other investment projects too, without confirming its final use. Volkswagen announced the gigafactory in June 2022, as part of a roughly €10 billion investment plan in Spain, largely dependent on public aid.
