Sagunto hosted the Camp de Morvedre edition of the Trobada d'Escoles en Valencià (Valencian-language schools rally) on Sunday, celebrating the event's 40th anniversary amid an ongoing teachers' strike.

Sagunto was the venue on Sunday for the local edition of the Trobada d'Escoles en Valencià, an annual festive rally in support of the Valencian language organised across the region by the federation Escola Valenciana. This year's gathering marks the event's 40th anniversary: the first Trobada was held in 1986 in La Xara and Benifaió, and each year the network brings together up to 200,000 people — teachers, pupils and families — from around twenty comarcas across the Valencian Country. Mayor Darío Moreno Lerga praised the event as an example of collective commitment to the language's future and called on residents to keep protecting that heritage. The 2026 edition took on added significance as teachers are currently on strike demanding better conditions for state education. The mayor expressed the support of the people of Sagunto for the striking teaching staff. According to the mayor's Facebook post, their struggle deserves the backing of the whole community.
