Empar and María named as new Moros y Cristianos festeras for Sagunto
Mayor Darío Moreno has congratulated Empar and María on being proclaimed the new lead representatives of the Moros y Cristianos (traditional reenactment festival) of Sagunto, succeeding Ana and Noa.
Sagunto's Moros y Cristianos festival (a traditional reenactment of the Christian Reconquest of Spain) has its new festeras mayores: Empar and María have been proclaimed the leading representatives for the coming year, taking over from Ana and Noa, who held the role during the previous cycle. Mayor Darío Moreno Lerga marked the occasion on social media, praising the outgoing festeras for their dedication and courage in representing Sagunto and the Camp de Morvedre district throughout their term. The Moros y Cristianos celebrations in Sagunto take place on the first weekend of October and are catalogued as part of the municipality's intangible cultural heritage, one of the most deeply rooted local traditions. The festeras mayores play a central role in the festival, taking part in parades and official ceremonies and reading the proclamations of the rival factions. According to the mayor's Facebook post, for Empar and María a story has now begun that will be written in the streets and memories of the town.
