Last week to submit investment ideas to Sagunto's 2027 participatory budget
Residents of Sagunto have until Sunday 31 May to submit investment proposals to the 2027 Participatory Budget; the City Hall has set aside €500,000 for winning projects.
The third edition of Sagunto's Participatory Investment Budget is in its final stretch. Any registered resident aged 16 or over, or any association on the municipal register, can submit up to three proposals at participa.sagunto.es before Sunday 31 May. The total pot is €500,000 and individual projects cannot exceed €125,000. Proposals must relate to physical infrastructure, public space improvements or durable equipment — not services or events — and must be technically and legally viable. After the submission deadline, a technical review runs from 10 June to 10 September; citizen voting then takes place from 15 to 30 September. Participatory budgeting originated in Porto Alegre, Brazil in 1989; by 2024 more than 11,500 municipal participatory budget processes exist worldwide. According to Sagunto City Hall, the initiative is a direct democracy tool that brings residents closer to public decision-making.
