Households with meters up to 15 mm will pay 16.74 euros a year for the investment charge, not 47.46; the PP wants to know the works and timelines.

A household with a meter of up to 15 millimetres will pay 16.74 euros a year for the new investment item on the water bill in Sagunto, instead of the 47.46 euros foreseen in the first version of the ordinance. In monthly terms, the charge falls from 3.955 to 1.395 euros: 2.56 euros less every month and 30.72 euros less over the year. The cut is roughly 65% of the amount first proposed.

The municipal group of the Partido Popular (PP) claims part of the credit. Its spokesman, Ximo Catalán, argues that the objections the party filed during the approval process helped correct the tariff. He also warns that the new item will keep appearing on the bill: the revision lowers the amount but does not abolish the charge.

To understand the change, go back to the summer. In August, the municipal plenary session provisionally approved the new water and sewerage ordinance, with the PSOE voting in favour, EU-Unides Podem abstaining and the other groups voting against. The proposal included a specific charge to renew infrastructure, improve water supply and work on the sewage network, among other needs.

According to valencianews.es, which reported on 13 August 2026, the mechanism is a fixed monthly charge tied to the meter size, and it was meant to raise 17.38 million euros until the end of the concession. Current reporting does not say whether that total changes with the reduction, so it is best read as the forecast of that time and not as an updated figure.

The resolution that corrects the tariff adds an assignment: Aigües de Sagunt (the company that runs the water service) must draw up a new investment tariff proposal. It will have to take into account consumption, the characteristics of the meters, household size and situations of economic vulnerability. What has been published does not say when that proposal will be presented.

The PP sees it as a step towards a more proportionate system, but insists that questions remain unanswered. It asks the government of Darío Moreno to explain how much money it expects to collect, which works will be paid for with it and on what timetable they will be carried out. This is not a new request: already in August, according to valencianews.es, the party demanded proof that residents were not paying twice for the same works before being charged more.

Catalán maintains that residents have a right to know what they are paying for and why, and that creating a tariff is not enough if the money does not turn into real improvements to the service. He stresses that his group does not question the need to modernise the water and sewerage networks, but wants the work planned transparently and at the lowest possible cost to families.

The material consulted does not include the governing team's reply to these requests, nor does it say at what stage of approval the ordinance stands after the correction. Those are the two open questions for households that will see the new charge on their bill.
