Sagunto cultural agenda: Botifarra on 16 October, Diàleg de Llibres and 75 years of BM Puerto
Sagunto opens the Diàleg de Llibres literary cycle this week, hosts Pep Gimeno Botifarra at the Auditori Joaquín Rodrigo on Friday 16 and opens the exhibition for the 75th anniversary of BM Puerto Sagunto.
The quarterly programme of Sagunto City Council's Culture department has three events this week: the start of the Diàleg de Llibres literary cycle, a concert by Pep Gimeno Botifarra and an exhibition on the 75 years of Fertiberia BM Puerto Sagunto (the local handball club).
The literary cycle, co-organised with the Libraries department, starts on Wednesday 14 October at 19:00 at the Mario Monreal Cultural Centre. Vicent Penya presents Res més viu and Roser Furió presents Collita d'aigua. The session opens the quarter's literary programme. The cycle already has a track record: in November 2024, according to valencianews.es, it brought local author Enrique Mochón to the Antiguo Sanatorio Civic Centre with his first book, in Spanish and with free entry until the room was full.
On Friday 16 October at 20:00, Pep Gimeno Botifarra plays the Auditori Joaquín Rodrigo. Tickets cost 9 euros and are sold on the Servientradas website. The musician from Xàtiva presents Ja ve l'aire, an album of 14 work songs from a female perspective. According to the municipal agenda, the show lasts 100 minutes, is in Valencian, and the album features collaborations with María Arnal, Noelia Llorens, Carmen París and Judith Neddermann. If it starts on time at 20:00, it will end around 21:40.
The album is not new this autumn: according to Viquipèdia, it came out in 2023 on the El Mico Entertainment label, and valenciaplaza.com presented it in January of that year. That article noted that the artist gives women a central role in his repertoire: in his words, 90% of the people he had worked with in it were women, and he summed up his motivation like this: «Si jo cante, és gràcies a les dones» (if I sing, it is thanks to women). It also announced a sell-out of 1,400 people at the Palau de les Arts auditorium. With this work, again according to Viquipèdia, Botifarra won three Carles Santos awards: best roots-music album, best tour and audience award. His career also includes the 2007 Premi Ovidi for best folk and new-music album and the Medal of Honour of the Consell Valencià de Cultura (Valencian Council of Culture), received in 2016.
On Thursday 15 October the exhibition for the 75th anniversary of Fertiberia BM Puerto Sagunto opens at the Antiguo Sanatorio Civic Centre. The municipal press note puts the opening at 19:00, while the City Council's agenda listing says 18:00, so it is worth confirming before going. The show, photographic in nature according to that listing, can be visited until 12 November.
The club was founded in 1951, according to its official website, and says it is the oldest in the whole Valencian Community. In November 2025, as elperiodic.com reported, the council plenary unanimously approved, with the support of five groups, a motion congratulating it on the anniversary. That report describes the club as the third-oldest men's handball body in Spain, after Granollers and Teucro, and recalls that it was a co-founder of the División de Honor B in 1994-95 and returned to the Asobal League forty years after its first spell in the top flight. The club also set up a broad organising committee for events open to the whole population during 2026.
Two more exhibitions remain open. El valor de lo cotidiano, by the Ateneo del Puerto, can be seen at the Casa Municipal de Cultura until 30 October, and Pinturas exóticas para corazones noctámbulos, by Darío Oltra, at the Mario Monreal Cultural Centre until 31 October.
