Compromís, the Valencian left-wing coalition, launches the Carxata Awards in Sagunto for people and groups committed to Valencian identity, on 30 October at the Mario Monreal Cultural Centre during the Nit Estellés.

On 30 October, at the Mario Monreal Cultural Centre, Compromís will present the Carxata Awards for the first time. The ceremony will be part of the Nit Estellés, the evening with which the group remembers the poet Vicent Andrés Estellés, and it will be open to the public.

The awards will recognise people, organisations and projects from Sagunto and the rest of the Valencian territory for their commitment to society, culture and Valencian identity. Who the first winners will be has not been revealed: Compromís will announce the names and the other details of the gala later.

The group's spokesperson in Sagunto, Albert Oliver, presents the awards as the start of the group's own tradition for the month of October, which brings together 9 d'Octubre (Valencian Community Day) and the Nit Estellés. He considers these suitable dates to recognise initiatives that strengthen Valencian identity and improve society, and says this edition will be special precisely because it is the first.

The chosen name adds a local touch: carxata is a word closely tied to Sagunto, and the group picked it to name the award.

Joan Baldoví, Compromís's síndic (parliamentary spokesperson) in the Corts, will attend the gala. The presence of party representatives in the Corts Valencianes (the regional parliament) and the Diputación (provincial council) has also been announced, along with other groups.

The Nit Estellés remembers a poet born in Burjassot on 4 September 1924 who died in Valencia on 27 March 1993. Among his best-known titles is Llibre de meravelles.

The event already has a recent precedent. According to El Periódico de Aquí in October 2025, the previous Nit Estellés took place on 31 October in the arcaded courtyard of the Mercado de Sagunto (the town market), with a reading of poems and a performance by the singer-songwriter Eva Gómez, from Almenara. At that time, the local spokesperson, Albert Llueca, presented it as a defence of the Valencian language and its literature. This year's edition changes venue, from the market to the Mario Monreal, and adds the awards as a novelty. The 2026 programme of readings or music has not been detailed.
