Sagunto trains 15 people in industrial cleaning with EU funding
Sagunto City Council has started a 240-hour training course in cleaning outdoor spaces and industrial facilities for 15 people, part of the municipal Itinerarios de Inclusión Social programme funded by the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+, locally FSE+).
Sagunto City Council's Social Services Department has launched a new training course in cleaning outdoor spaces and industrial facilities, aimed at fifteen people interested in joining this sector. The 240-hour course, split between theory and hands-on practice, is part of the municipal programme Itinerarios de Inclusión Social (Social Inclusion Pathways) and is funded by the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+, known locally as FSE+) Comunitat Valenciana 2021-2027, the EU funding line behind much of the department's training work this year.
On finishing, participants will get a Level 1 Professional Certificate, the most basic category in Spain's official job-qualification system. According to Spain's Servicio de Ocupación de las Illes Balears (SOIB, a regional employment service), this level certifies competence in relatively simple tasks that follow standard procedures, with limited theoretical requirements. That is exactly why there is no prior qualification or academic requirement to enrol, which makes this kind of certificate an entry point into the job market designed for people without formal education or with interrupted study paths.
The syllabus combines professional cleaning techniques with training in workplace risk prevention and safety, a section the department sees as essential in industrial settings, where handling machinery and chemical products demands strict protocols. Each participant also gets personalised support during the course and will complete a work placement at a company in the sector, a step meant to help them move straight from the classroom into a job once they have their qualification.
The Itinerarios de Inclusión Social programme, which this course is part of, often works with people receiving the Renta Valenciana de Inclusión (RVI, Valencian Inclusion Income), the regional benefit for people at risk of social exclusion in the Valencian Community. As defined by the regional government (Generalitat Valenciana), the RVI combines financial support with professional guidance aimed at helping people find work, so courses like this one in cleaning act as one more piece within that joint path of benefit and training.
This is not the first course of its kind the department has run this year. According to a report by aytosagunto.es in May 2026, the same programme had earlier run the workshop Caminem cap a l'ocupació (Walking towards employment), aimed at twenty people across two editions and focused on social skills, CV writing and interview preparation, also funded by the ESF+ Comunitat Valenciana 2021-2027. Around the same time, elperiodic.com reported that another arm of the same umbrella programme, the En Moviment (On the Move) project, had supported around fifteen people referred by Social Services, many of them receiving the RVI and Spain's minimum income benefit, with 200 hours of support between May and December focused on physical and emotional wellbeing, personal independence and social skills. The cleaning course now starting therefore adds to an already active calendar of initiatives for the same group of people.
The Social Services councillor, Nuria Carbó, has stressed that the City Council "continues creating opportunities" for residents through programmes like this one. According to the councillor, the training aims to broaden job skills to genuinely improve people's chances of finding work, a priority that matters especially in a sector, cleaning outdoor spaces and industrial facilities, with steady demand for staff across the district.
For the fifteen people enrolled, the course will run for several weeks before moving into the company placement, the point where classroom training turns into real workplace experience. The City Council has not yet said when it will open a new round of this same course, though the pace of courses this year, with at least three different initiatives under Itinerarios de Inclusión Social between May and September, suggests the department plans to keep offering this kind of training regularly.
