CEV and CEOE Aragón demand double electrified track between Teruel and Sagunto
The CEV (Valencian Community's business confederation) and CEOE Aragón, led by presidents Vicente Lafuente and Benito Tesier, will file joint objections demanding a double electrified track on the Teruel-Sagunto rail section, key for the ports of Valencia, Sagunto and Castellón.
The meeting, held at CEV headquarters in Valencia, comes a week after the Ministry of Transport published in the official gazette (BOE) a study proposing a single track along the entire Teruel-Sagunto section, unlike the Zaragoza-Teruel stretch and the rest of the Cantabrian-Mediterranean Corridor, a rail project formally presented in Zaragoza in 2009 to connect Valencia, Teruel, Zaragoza, Tudela, Logroño, Miranda de Ebro, Pamplona and Santander.
Lafuente, CEV president since November 2025 after succeeding Salvador Navarro, warned that reducing the track's capacity would create a bottleneck that would hurt the competitiveness of the ports of Valencia, Sagunto and Castellón. Tesier noted that the corridor connects 17 million people in an area that generates 29% of Spain's GDP.
Both business associations already signed a joint declaration in 2022 demanding the double track. Their studies estimate the line could carry between 48 and 54 weekly freight trains per direction, well above current capacity, forcing many companies onto less competitive alternative routes.
