Iniciativa Porteña urges mayor to resolve urgent SAG labour dispute

Local political group Iniciativa Porteña has asked Sagunto mayor Darío Moreno to step in directly and unblock a labour dispute between the public company SAG and its staff, ahead of the town's summer festivities.

Iniciativa Porteña spokesman Eduardo Márquez is demanding that the mayor, who chairs the municipal company SAG, get personally involved to break a standoff between company management and staff that has dragged on for weeks. The group warns that delaying a deal risks street cleanliness just as the town's patron-saint festivities begin, the population grows over summer, and three large screens go up in public to show the outcome of the World Cup. Márquez fears that without normal rubbish collection, waste will pile up on pavements during these weeks of peak crowds. The group also questions the council's choice to boost private security at the company site -five guards hired per shift over ten days- instead of channelling that money into effective mediation between management and staff. The spokesman argues the council should aim for a lasting deal rather than short-term patches, warning that dragging out the dispute during such a busy social period would damage both the town's tourist reputation and the cleanliness of its streets. According to El Periódico de Aquí.
