Sagunto boosts safety and inclusion for its summer patron saint festivals

Sagunto is strengthening security, Puntos Violeta (anti-harassment support points) and medical coverage for this summer's patron saint festivals in Sagunto and Puerto de Sagunto, says councillor Patricia Sánchez.

Sánchez explains that organising the patron saint festivals -honouring Saints Abdón and Senén and held in the second half of July, weeks before the October Moros y Cristianos festival (traditional reenactment festival)- takes months of coordination with the Federations of Penyes (local festival clubs), neighbourhood associations and security forces. New this year are musical tribute concerts to Spanish bands Amaral and Joaquín Sabina, aimed at a wide audience. Sánchez says security, medical assistance and Puntos Violeta -support points for victims of sexist or LGTBI-phobic harassment- have all been reinforced so everyone can enjoy the festivities safely. She highlights growing youth involvement in the Penyes federations, the traditional backbone of the celebrations, and says the programme balances deep-rooted bullfighting events with an increasingly diverse cultural, musical and family offering. During these weeks, festival activity boosts local shops and restaurants. According to El Periódico de Aquí, with additional background from Wikipedia.
