Sagunt a Escena 2026 opens 1 August with classics, contemporary works and eleven free shows
The 43rd edition of the festival runs from 1 to 23 August with 19 performances: nine at the Roman Theatre and eleven free Off Sagunto shows, featuring fourteen Valencian companies.
The Institut Valencià de Cultura (IVC — the Valencian Government's culture body), together with the Diputació de València and Sagunto City Council, presents the 2026 edition of Sagunt a Escena, a theatre festival with four decades of history as the benchmark summer cultural event in the Valencian Community. The programme blends texts by Guillem de Castro, Lope de Vega and Brecht with contemporary productions, spanning classical drama to cutting-edge stage work.
The main venue is the Roman Theatre of Sagunto (Teatro Romano), declared Spain's first national monument in 1896 and the festival's historic home since its earliest editions. Nine productions will be staged there this year. The Off Sagunto strand adds eleven free-entry shows at alternative spaces around the city.
Fourteen of the nineteen companies are based in the Valencian Community, underlining the festival's role as a launchpad for regional performing arts. Tickets for Roman Theatre performances are on sale now through the IVC. According to elperiodic.com.
