Camp de Morvedre teachers close school year with debate on Valencian-language public education
Teachers, families and education representatives gathered on Wednesday 1 July for the fifth edition of the 'Compartim experiències' (Sharing experiences) education conference organised by Cevcam in Sagunto.
At the end of a school year marked by strikes and teacher protests across the Valencian Community, the Coordinadora per l'Ensenyament en Valencià del Camp de Morvedre (Cevcam — the local body promoting Valencian-language education) held a reflection and debate session instead of its usual classroom practice exchange. The event brought together teachers from all educational stages, families and education sector professionals. Jordi Caballero addressed attendees on the solidarity fund run by teacher assemblies and Escola Valenciana (the regional federation for Valencian-language education) to sustain ongoing protests. A round table followed, with contributions from Jaume Olmos, head of the CRA Benavites-Quart rural school, who relayed demands from school management teams that resigned during this academic year. The session closed with a performance by Manifas Band — a music group formed out of the teacher movement — and calls for the resignation of Regional Education Minister María José Ortí. Cevcam is the Camp de Morvedre branch of Escola Valenciana, founded in 1990 and grouping 26 district associations across the region to promote Valencian-language normalisation.
