Second wildfire of the day in Camp de Morvedre: blaze contained in Quartell farmland
Valencia firefighters from the Sagunto station extinguished a vegetation fire on Sunday afternoon in the farming area of Quartell, the second wildfire to hit the Camp de Morvedre district that day.
The emergency call reached firefighters at 16:09 on Sunday. A unit from the Sagunto station, accompanied by a Consortium sergeant, responded to Quartell, a municipality where close to 87% of the land is cultivated with citrus fruits, vegetables and Muscat grapes — an agricultural landscape prone to spreading fires during dry spells. The blaze reached several fields roughly two kilometres from the town centre and was brought under control with no casualties and no homes affected, the local mayor Cristina Marqués confirmed; neither the area burned nor the probable cause have yet been disclosed by authorities. This was the second fire of the day in the comarca: earlier that morning, a separate blaze in Estivella required a larger response team due to its proximity to residential zones. The Valencian Government's Emergency Coordination Centre continues monitoring the Estivella fire, according to El Periódico de Aquí.
