PP opposition calls on Sagunto council to activate feral cat colony management
The People's Party (PP) municipal group says promised shelters and equipment have sat idle for months while cat colonies keep growing across Sagunto neighbourhoods.
Several Sagunto neighbourhoods have seen a build-up of stray cat colonies, bringing complaints about neighbour disputes, sanitary concerns and doubts over animal welfare. PP spokesman Ximo Catalán went public with criticism that the council has failed to deliver on its own commitments. The sharpest point in the PP's case: specially adapted containers for feline colonies, received from a neighbouring municipality, have been kept in storage at council premises without ever being used. Catalán called on Mayor Darío Moreno and Councillor Javier Timón to deploy them without delay and to open the shelters that were promised but remain closed. The PP also wants sterilisation campaigns stepped up and closer ties with animal protection organisations and volunteers, who currently fill the gap left by the lack of municipal action. The matter has been raised at multiple full council sessions without producing any concrete measures, according to elperiodicodeaqui.com.
