Local councillors from Compromís have formally requested that Sagunto City Hall improve the condition of its municipal petanque (pétanque) courts after meeting with players' representatives.

Maria Josep Picó, spokesperson for the Compromís (Valencian left-wing coalition) group on Sagunto City Council, met with representatives of the local petanque community to hear their concerns about the state of the municipal facilities and the needs of regular players. Following the meeting, Compromís submitted a formal request to the City Hall calling for concrete improvements to the playing surfaces, accessibility and overall conditions of the spaces dedicated to the sport in the municipality. Petanque is particularly popular among older residents and is a common sight in the squares and neighbourhoods of Camp de Morvedre. Pétanque was created in 1910 in La Ciotat, France — its name comes from the Provençal phrase for «fixed feet» — and the international federation FIPJP, founded in 1958, has around 800,000 members worldwide. According to elperiodic.com, the request focuses on ensuring suitable conditions for regular users.
