Ordóñez street in Sagunto is already under works, and Remei and Trinitat will follow in 2027, with new water networks and a single platform.

Residents of Ordóñez street already live alongside the works to rebuild their street, the first of two phases in which Sagunto City Council will also take on Remei and Trinitat streets. The council itself admits there will be temporary disruption: traffic cuts, noise, dust and changes to pedestrian routes.

The works on Ordóñez have a four-month deadline, although the contractor has offered to finish in three and a half months. They were due to start in the first half of October 2026. If everything goes to plan and no problems arise, the street will be finished during the first quarter of 2027. The council's announcement does not give the cost of the investment.

Work begins underground. About 168 metres of new drinking water pipe and 157 metres of sewer pipe will be laid, and the connections serving homes will be renewed. New drainage elements will be added and the fittings associated with both networks replaced.

Once the underground work is done, the surface comes next. The street will be rebuilt as a single platform, a design in which roadway and pedestrian area share the same level. The paving for traffic and pedestrian areas will be renewed, tactile paving (a raised surface that guides visually impaired pedestrians) will be added where needed, and road markings and signs will be renewed.

The second phase covers Remei and Trinitat streets. The approach is similar: renew the drinking water and sewer networks, house connections and associated elements, then upgrade the roadways, extending the water and urban improvements to the whole area. Both works are part of Aigües de Sagunt's 2027 planning and are expected to start in the first half of the year. Exact dates will be announced when the first phase ends, so residents of Remei and Trinitat will not know the precise timetable until then.

This is not the first time Aigües de Sagunt has renewed networks in streets of the municipality. According to elperiodic.com in October 2019, the company put out to tender the works on Canalejas street in Puerto de Sagunto (coastal district) and Los Dolores street in Sagunto for a combined 364,111 euros including VAT. On Canalejas, a fibre cement pipe running down the middle of the roadway was being replaced.

Splitting the works into phases is meant, according to the council, to reduce disruption and let the area return to normal between the two interventions. Anyone with questions about the works can write to [email protected].
