The Vía del Pòrtic in Sagunto has hosted a document-examination (documentoscopia) course for 30 trainees from local police forces and the Guardia Civil. The WPA organised it with Sagunto's Local Police.

Thirty trainees from several local police forces and the Guardia Civil (Spain's national gendarmerie) attended the course Documentoscopia para policías: estudio de documentos italianos y sus falsificaciones at the Vía del Pòrtic in Sagunto. The World Police Association (WPA) organised it, with Sagunto's Local Police as collaborator.

Documentoscopia is the technical examination of a document to establish whether it is genuine or has been altered. This time the syllabus focused on Italian documentation: its characteristic features, the points worth checking during an examination and the elements that give away a manipulated or fraudulent document.

Checking identity documents and other official papers is part of officers' daily routine, so specific training helps them observe, analyse and react better when a possible case arises. It is a subject that demands technical knowledge and constant updating.

Esteban Feria, commissioner of Sagunto's Local Police and a WPA member, argues that the preparation received at the start of a career is not enough and that officers must retrain permanently to work with the highest guarantees. He also welcomed Sagunto hosting courses like this, because they let professionals meet, share knowledge and gain access to new learning opportunities.

María José Carrera, the councillor for Local Police, sees training as an investment in preparation, prevention and quality of public service, and considers it essential to provide spaces where officers can update their knowledge and share experiences. She added that the City Council will keep backing initiatives that improve the skills of professionals serving the public.

For the council, the event positions Sagunto as a meeting point for training and cooperation between police forces.

According to the Sagunto City Council, which released the information on 23 October 2026.
