Sagunto's local commerce recipe book: a selection of recipes now available as PDF
The Portal del Comerciante (the council's local business portal) in Sagunto offers a PDF selection of the best recipes from the campaign «El Recetario del Comercio Local, el sabor de tu barrio», opened in April 2026.
The campaign «El Recetario del Comercio Local, el sabor de tu barrio» (The Local Commerce Recipe Book, the flavour of your neighbourhood) now has a result that any resident can read: the Sagunto City Council's Portal del Comerciante (local business portal) offers a PDF selection of the best recipes collected. It is the first visible fruit of a project with a simple idea: to gather in a single book the recipes passed down from generation to generation in shops, market stalls and homes across the city.
The collection followed a short calendar. The campaign opened on 27 April 2026, and shops that wanted to take part had to register on the portal before 11 May, that is, within two weeks. Each registered shop received an information display and recipe cards where both the shopkeeper and customers wrote down the recipe they wanted to see go down in history, under their own name or their grandmother's. That mechanism explains the character of the book: the recipes come from the people who buy and sell in the neighbourhood every day.
The project also had an audiovisual chapter. According to elperiodic.com on 3 June 2026, the documentary short La Trastienda premiered at Cines Alucine (a cinema) as part of the campaign, and the premiere included a round table with project participants. Natalia Antonino, the councillor for Commerce and Markets, argued then that the film invites people to see local trade as an economic, social and emotional engine, beyond the shop window.
The public presentation of the recipe book was planned in the markets. According to elperiodic.com on 25 September 2026, it was due to be presented on two consecutive Saturdays: 26 September at the indoor market in Sagunto and 3 October at the one in Puerto de Sagunto (coastal district), with workshops, showcooking and tastings. Antonino explained that the aim was to go beyond a food publication and recognise the shops and the people behind them.
One question remains open. The campaign said that the chosen recipes would be published as a recipe book together with a collection of illustrated tablecloths, aprons and T-shirts, and that a jury of experts and the public, through social media, would make the selection. The note published now speaks only of the PDF and does not say whether there will be a printed edition or when the textile collection would arrive.
