Wildfire forces firefighter mobilisation in Quart de les Valls, next to Sagunto
A wildfire declared in Quart de les Valls, a municipality bordering directly on Sagunto, forced the mobilisation of ground and air firefighting crews around midday, the regional Emergency Coordination Centre reported.
The Emergency Coordination Centre (CCE, the regional service that manages emergency response) received notice of a wildfire in the municipality of Quart de les Valls, after the fire crossed over from Castellón province into Valencia region. The initial response included two ground units and one helicopter crew from the Generalitat's Forest Firefighters, plus a fire engine, a crew from the Valencia Provincial Fire Consortium, and one aircraft. At 12:15pm, a second helicopter crew and three more aircraft joined the operation as reinforcement. Quart de les Valls borders directly on Sagunto, as well as on Benifairó de les Valls, Quartell and Almenara, so the fire's progress is being closely watched across the Camp de Morvedre district. The municipality sits surrounded by an arc of low hills and mountains covered in pine trees, a type of vegetation that fuels wildfires in episodes like this one.
