Sagunto to set up giant screens for World Cup semifinal against France
Sagunto City Council will install three giant screens in Sagunto, Puerto de Sagunto and Almardà so residents can watch Spain's World Cup semifinal against France on Tuesday 14 July at 21:00.
The initiative comes from the Tourism Department together with the local peñas (football supporters' clubs) of Sagunto and Puerto de Sagunto. The first screen will go up in Plaza Cronista Chabret, in central Sagunto; the second at the entrance of the Centro Cívico Antiguo Sanatorio in Puerto de Sagunto; and the third behind the Centro Cultural Voro Alandí in Almardà.
If Spain reaches the final, the council will repeat the public screening on Sunday 19 July, also at 21:00, coinciding with the Santos de la Piedra patron-saint festival: Puerto de Sagunto and Almardà will keep the same locations, while in Sagunto the screen will move to the Recinto Ferial (fairground). That potential final would be played at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Spain arrives at the tournament as reigning European champion, though it has won only one World Cup in its history, in 2010, according to Sagunto City Council.
