New website preserves the memory of Padre Jaime, a historic figure of Puerto de Sagunto

The family of priest Jaume Pons i Vallès has launched padrejaime.org to gather testimonies, photographs and documents from people who knew him in Puerto de Sagunto (coastal district).

The site, backed by Sagunto's Mayor's Office, invites residents and former locals to share their memories through an open submission form. The project grew out of the family's wish to keep alive the legacy of a priest who arrived in Puerto de Sagunto as parish vicar and spent decades serving its most vulnerable families.

Born in Binissalem, Mallorca, in 1913 and ordained in 1942, Pons i Vallès began his ministry in Puerto de Sagunto around 1947. He used his own funds to build housing for families in need, giving rise to the neighbourhood that now bears his name. Puerto de Sagunto, founded in 1902 as an industrial port town, is today home to some 43,600 residents. The website brings together a biography, neighbourhood testimonies and audiovisual material from the ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of his death.

Mayor Darío Moreno said the priest's dedication deserves to be known by present and future generations. The city council had already held a formal tribute in November 2022, organised by the Culture Department.
