Mayor Darío Moreno announced this evening at Sagunto City Council the election of the new Falleras Mayores (top ceremonial figures of the Fallas festival) for 2026-2027.

Empar Ríos Sánchez-Mellado, from the Falla El Palleter falla group, has been chosen as Fallera Mayor, the principal representative of the comarca. Maria Pozuelo Martín, from Falla El Romano, will serve as Fallera Mayor Infantil, the junior equivalent. The announcement followed the traditional phone calls from the mayor to the two elected women, in a ceremony attended by the councillor for Festivals and Popular Culture, Patricia Sánchez, the president of the Federació Junta Fallera de Sagunt (FJFS), Aitor Muñoz, and the outgoing Falleras Mayores Ana Martínez and Noa Barea.

Earlier in the day, the candidates were presented publicly at the Casa Municipal de Cultura. The selection panel was appointed by the FJFS itself.

As Falleras Mayores, the two women will preside over the main events of the Fallas calendar: the Crida (opening ceremony), the Ofrenda de flores (flower offering), and the cremà (bonfire finale) on 19 March. Fallas were inscribed as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2016. According to Sagunto City Council.
