Felipe Pérez Villares has been the head of the National Police in Sagunto since 14 October, after receiving the baton of command. The regional chief, Carlos Gajero, presided over the ceremony.

Felipe Pérez Villares has been head of the Local Police Station (Comisaría Local) of the National Police in Sagunto since Wednesday 14 October. The commissioner received the baton of command, the symbol of the post, at an official ceremony held at the Casal Jove in Puerto de Sagunto (coastal district), attended by representatives of the administrations and the police forces.

The handover was made by the chief of police of the Valencian Community, Carlos Gajero Grande, who presided over the ceremony. Also present were the provincial chief of the National Police in Valencia, Carlos Holgado Pascual; the mayor of Sagunto, Darío Moreno; and the central government's sub-delegate, José Rodríguez Jurado, along with other civil and police authorities.

To place the post: a local police station is the unit the National Police assigns to large population centres that are not provincial capitals, and there are 126 across Spain. Above them are the Higher Police Headquarters (jefaturas superiores), bodies for command, management, coordination and inspection of police services in each region. There are 20 in the country, and the one for the Valencian Community is the one the Sagunto station answers to; its head, Gajero, presided over Wednesday's ceremony.

The force this team belongs to has about 76,700 officers (2025 figure). Its origins go back to 1824, when Ferdinand VII created the General Superintendence of Police, and the current name comes from the organic law on security forces of 13 March 1986.

The regional chief who handed over the baton has held his post since 2024. According to valenciaplaza.com, in May of that year Carlos Gajero was appointed chief of police of the Valencian Community by the Interior Minister, on the proposal of the Director General of Police. He joined the force in 1994, with the Higher Police Headquarters of Madrid as his first posting, and, until that appointment, headed the Cyberthreats unit of the General Information Commissariat.

There is also a pending change for the police base itself. According to valencianews.es in March 2026, Sagunto will get a new National Police station on Avenida Corts Valencianes, at the junction with Calle Carmen Martín Gaite, under the State Security Infrastructure Plan. The plot exceeds 10,500 square metres, has already been handed over by the City Council, and the area will also house the future Ciudad de la Justicia (law courts complex). None of the sources consulted sets dates for construction or relocation.
