Valencian business group calls for double rail track on Teruel-Sagunto line
The Confederación Empresarial de la Comunitat Valenciana (CEV), a Valencian business group, is considering a formal objection after Spain's transport ministry ruled out a double electrified track between Teruel and Sagunto, a rail corridor key to local industry and logistics.
Spain's Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has ruled out building a double electrified track on the Teruel-Sagunto stretch of the Cantabrian-Mediterranean rail corridor. In response, the CEV (Confederación Empresarial de la Comunitat Valenciana, the main Valencian business confederation) is weighing whether to file a formal objection to the ministry's study. The group, which brings together most business associations, federations, companies and self-employed workers across the Valencian Community through thematic committees, will hand the analysis to its Transport, Mobility and Logistics Infrastructure Commission, working with other sector bodies. Its president, Vicente Lafuente, argues that giving up the double track would limit the competitiveness of a corridor meant to connect the ports of Valencia, Sagunto and Castellón (Castellón de la Plana) with inland Spain. The CEV warns the decision would hit the Camp de Morvedre district (Sagunto's home comarca) especially hard, since it is currently going through strong business expansion and needs this rail link to consolidate ongoing industrial and logistics growth. The confederation is calling for infrastructure built with enough capacity for future freight and passenger traffic growth. According to valenciaplaza.com, with additional details from CEV itself.
