Generalitat puts new Sagunto Palace of Justice out to tender for €37 million
The regional Justice department opened bidding this Monday for the new courthouse in Sagunto, budgeted at €37 million, after years of delays.
The new Palace of Justice (the courthouse) will be built next to the Lepicentre shopping centre, on land handed over by the City Council. It will bring together the seven court offices currently spread across Sagunto into one building. The tender comes two months after the City Council approved a motion demanding the regional government (Generalitat) launch the project immediately, following years of announcements that never became reality since the building was first presented in 2023.
The building, covering almost 12,500 square metres, will have ten courtrooms working from day one, with space kept for three more (up to 13 total), plus six hearing rooms that can grow to eight. It will also house the Prosecutor's Office, the Civil Registry, a forensic medical clinic, victim support services, holding cells, a wedding hall, and parking for 106 vehicles, with solar panels on the roof.
The Sagunto judicial district covers 16 towns in the Camp de Morvedre area and around 93,374 residents, served by six court units — giving a sense of how many people the new building will serve. Next comes awarding the contract and starting construction, according to valenciaplaza.com.
