MuralArts returns to Sagunto schools with student art celebrating diversity
Sagunto City Council launched the second edition of MuralArts, a joint Education and LGTBIQ+ Policy programme, with first-year art students from IES Clot del Moro as creators of the works.
MuralArts is back in Sagunto's secondary schools with a second edition combining artistic expression and values education. Students in the first year of the Arts stream at IES Clot del Moro (a local secondary school) were given full creative freedom to develop works around the theme of diversity: coexistence, anti-racism, gender equality and LGTBIQ+ rights run through the murals as connecting themes.
The unveiling was deliberately timed to coincide with Pride Month — June, the anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall events that gave rise to the international commemoration. Councillor Raúl Palmero highlighted the cross-departmental cooperation between Education and LGTBIQ+ Policy as a model of joined-up work. Mayor Darío Moreno confirmed the programme will continue in successive years and expand to new schools. Spain's Trans Law, in force since March 2023, requires schools to treat trans minors in line with their identity and bans conversion therapy, underlining the relevance of awareness initiatives such as this.
