Free flood risk workshop at Puerto de Sagunto youth centre on 6 July
The Casal Jove youth centre in Puerto de Sagunto (coastal district) will host a free participatory workshop on flood risk mapping on Monday 6 July at 17:30.
The RIUMED-UV research group (University of Valencia's Geography department, specialising in Mediterranean natural hazards and public risk perception) has designed the session together with the Universitat de València and Sagunto City Council. Participants will work in groups of up to six people with cartographic materials to understand how water from the Palancia river basin — 90.7 km long, with a catchment area of 976 km² — reaches the coast between Sagunto and Canet d'En Berenguer. Although the river's average flow is low, intense rainfall can trigger serious floods, as recent events in the comarca have shown. The session covers three areas: drainage network study, flood-risk map interpretation, and guidance on official early-warning sources. Attendees will also fill in questionnaires to advance research into how residents understand flood risk. Places are limited to 60 people in groups of six; registration is free via the link provided by the UV. According to Sagunto City Council, the activity is part of an ongoing collaboration between the municipality and the university.
